A good label layout leaves room for both the printer and the person cutting it. The maximum number of rectangles on a sheet is not always the most convenient arrangement. Before increasing the count, decide how much handling room you need and whether the stock is blank or pre-cut.
Three measurements to keep separate
The label size is the finished rectangle. The gap is the space between neighboring rectangles. The margin is the minimum distance reserved around the group. In Swetter, the finished grid is centered within the sheet, so actual edge space can be larger than the minimum margin you enter.
Try a 50 × 30 mm label
On A4 paper, use a 10 mm minimum margin and a 4 mm gap. The usable area is 190 × 277 mm. Three columns fit: 3 × 50 + 2 × 4 = 158 mm. Eight rows fit: 8 × 30 + 7 × 4 = 268 mm. This gives 24 labels per full sheet. A request for 30 labels produces two PDF pages, with six labels on the second page.
Use the corresponding height measurements for rows. The final gap is not counted after the last label. That is why the formula adds one gap before dividing. Swetter uses a regular grid and does not mix rotated and unrotated labels to pack more onto a sheet.
Cut outlines are optional
Enable outlines for a visible cutting guide on blank stock. Disable them when you want text without borders. A line sits on the boundary of the finished label; trim consistently if an outline is visible. The tool does not add a bleed area or production crop marks for a commercial press.
Pre-cut sheets need a matching template
Commercial adhesive sheets can have asymmetric margins, different horizontal and vertical pitches, rounded corners or manufacturer-specific offsets. This general-purpose tool does not model those details. Use the stock manufacturer's exact template for pre-cut sheets. For blank paper or card, start with a plain-paper proof and print at 100%.
The label text field supports basic English characters. It repeats the same text across all labels, rather than merging a list of addresses. The PDF uses vector lines and text, so the geometry remains sharp when viewed at different zoom levels.
